While Will Eisner is the “father” to The Spirit, he had always allowed others to play with his “son” — from Lou Fine on the Spirit daily strip to Wally Wood’s sci-fi take on Denny Colt. In recent years we saw Darwyn Cooke bring his interpretation to Central City’s classic crime fighter, followed by others providing their attempts at this legendary character.
Years ago, Kitchen Sink Press published new stories featuring Denny Colt, Inspector Dolan, Ellen Dolan, sidekick Ebony, and the many femme fatales that make up a Spirit story. These stories were crafted by a Who’s-Who of writers and artists, from the Watchmen team of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, to Neil Gaiman, Moebius, Paul Pope, and many others.
Dark Horse Comics has now collected the complete KSP run in Will Eisner’s The Spirit: The New Adventures Archive. The Dark Horse Spirit collection is a great companion edition that belongs on your bookshelves with the soon to be completed DC Spirit Archives.See PREVIEWS page 45.
