Marvel Studios Announces Next Slate of Films and TV Shows at SDCC

This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel Studios revealed the upcoming movies and TV shows from the studio – including the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what’s planned for the new streaming service, Disney+. Look below to find all the news and announcements that came out of SDCC!

Fans can look forward to these titles over the next two years:

Marvel Studios’ The Eternals starring Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and Angelina Jolie as Thena. The Eternals, which will be directed by Chloé Zhao, will be in theaters November 6, 2020.

The first show coming exclusively to Disney+ will be Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) will be returning to their MCU roles, and it was confirmed that Daniel Brühl will also return as the villain, Baron Zemo. Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will come to Disney+ in the fall of 2020.

There will be a classic Marvel Comics character making his movie debut with Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Simu Liu will star in the title role and appear alongside Awkwafina in a currently undisclosed role and Tony Leung as the (real) Mandarin. Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and will be in theaters February 12, 2021.

Marvel Studio’s WandaVision is an original series on Disney+ starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, reprising their MCU roles as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision. Co-starring with them is Teyonah Parris, who was revealed to be playing the adult Monica Rambeau, a character introduced as a child in Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel. Marvel Studios’ WandaVision will arrive on Disney+ in the spring of 2021.

Loki will also make his way to Disney+! Marvel Studios’ Loki, an original series starring Tom Hiddleston, will see the god of mischief causing even more trouble starting in the spring of 2021 on Disney+.

Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange with Scott Derrickson returning as director. But joining Doctor Strange this time around will be the Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. According to the announcement, the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will connect with the Disney+ series Marvel Studios' WandaVision. Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 7, 2021.

Marvel's WHAT IF...? comics will be adapted for the small screen as the first animated series in the MCU. The series will star Jeffrey Wright as the voice of The Watcher with many actors from across the MCU reprising their roles as voice talent. What If…? will be a fun take on the MCU that focuses on alternate realities in the Marvel Universe. WHAT IF...? will premiere in the summer of 2021, exclusively on Disney+.

Another fan-favorite character from the MCU will make thier first appearance on the small scree with Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye. Starring Jeremy Renner, reprising his famous role as Hawkeye, the show will introduce Kate Bishop, who has been garnering praise in Marvel Comics' recent Hawkeye series. Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye will come to Disney+ in the fall of 2021.

Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, will see the return of Natalie Portman to the Thor series as she joins co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. Taika Waititi will return as director, and during the announcnemnt he confirmed that Jane Foster will become the Mighty Thor, goddess of Thunder. Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive in theaters November 5, 2021.

Marvel Studios’ Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson, will be joined by David Harbour as Alexei AKA The Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena, O-T Fagbenle as Mason, and Rachel Weisz as Melina. Cate Shortland is directing. Marvel Studios’ Black Widow will come to theaters May 1, 2020.

Finally, it was revealed that Blade will make his MCU debut in an upcoming film. Blade will played by two-time Academy Award winning actor Mahershala Ali. No release date was given for the film.
