Pyongyang: A Journey to North Korea HC
Jul 21, 2005
Pyongyang is the amazing first-hand account of Canadian animator Guy
Delisle's trip to North Korea, a country the rest of the world knows precious
little about. Desilsle tells a poignant tale of his visit on a work visa - at
times humorous and others gut-wrenchingly sad, he gives us his unfettered
impressions of an oppressed and cult-like society under the unchallenged
dominion of the dictator Kim Jong-II. The book leaves a lasting impression of
what life is like in North Korea and gives the reader incredible insight into
the society, both by what Delisle is allowed to see, and by what is forbidden to
him. The book is filled with little gems like “...since the hierarchies in
civilian life extend to those in the army, Captain Sin, for example, would head
a battalion of animators.” All in all, it's a riveting, fascinating story
I highly recommend to anyone interested in politics, sociology, or the human
condition.
