Staff Picks (Jun13): Frank Miller’s Robocop — Last Stand #1
May 17, 2013
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
I started collecting Frank Miller’s work when I was in college. I grabbed up the various volumes of Sin City as quickly as my razor thin budget would allow. I was getting to a point in my life where I decided I didn’t want to read superhero comics anymore and was looking for something more mature and found it in spades. What I did not know in college was that years before I had already been introduced to Frank Miller’s work when I picked up a copy of Robocop vs. Terminator. I loved the book which was no surprise given how much I liked the movies. Robocop and its sequels were some of the first R-rated movies that I saw as a kid. I had watched it over at one of my friend’s houses whose parents had HBO allowing us to sneak some R-rated movie time without our parents finding out.
This latest project from BOOM! has Steven Grant (2 Guns, The Punisher) turning Frank Miller’s unproduced screenplay for the final chapter in the Robocop story into a seven part monthly mini-series. Boom is promising all the action and violence that made the first movie a classic. Detroit is under siege by OCP which has been busy turning the city into a police state with their corporate enforcers and ED-209s. OCP sponsored propaganda may paint Robocop as a terrorist but the citizens of Detroit aren’t buying that for a dollar!
Pick up Frank Miller’s Robocop: Last Stand #1 and read the conclusion to the Robocop saga the way Frank Miller intended.
