Staff Pick (October 10): Rocket Man — King Of The Rocketmen #1
Sep 22, 2010
Contrary to what you’ve heard I was too young during the days of chapter serials to actual see them in movie theatres. In the early days of television you could believe a man could fly with the help of a jetpack, TV turner knobs as controls and a bullet shaped helmet. The hero of King of the Rocket Men became Commando Cody on TV as chapter serials gave way to weekly series. More recently Dave Steven’s The Rocketeer, Innovation's Rocketman, and Penny Farthing Press’s Captain Gravity have all paid homage to the classic hero and those days of cinematic thrills.
In Rocket Man: King of the Rocketmen #1 from Moonstone Books the adventure continues as part of their “Return of the Originals” line of comics. In a tale featuring the introduction of a new Rocket Man, Moonstone shows the same attention to detail and respect for the characters they publish including Kolchak the Night Stalker, the Spider, and Honey West.
A blend of pulp era sci-fi, chapter serial adventure, and comics are combined into a new series of stories featuring classic characters!
