On Tuesday morning, October 14, 1947, the world stood on the brink of history. From the airstrip at Muroc Army Air Field, a B-29 took off into the cool desert sky, carrying beneath it the Bell X-1 # 46-062. At about 10:30, the X-1 dropped from the B-29 and, with Chuck Yeager at the controls, the experimental airplane rapidly climbed to an altitude of 40,000 feet. Soon, it broke through the sound barrier, reaching a speed of Mach 1.06, the first manned aircraft to do so and Yeager became the fastest man alive. Nicknamed the
Glamorous Glennis, this historic aircraft is recreated with this pre-built model kit that measures 23" long and has working landing gear and other authentic details.
