When Sugimura meets up with Kotohiki, the excitement makes him forget just how volatile and dangerous the situation is. As Sugimura and head toward Shuuya's group, Kiriyama catches up to them, causing Sugimura to protect Kotohiki. As he tries to fight, Sugimura begins to feel that it's meaningless to try to defeat the monster Kiriyama.
