Firstly, who are you and where do hail from?

I’m an illustrator from Massachusetts.  I now live in Vermont with my wife, son, and two cats!

What is The Devil That Wears My Face?

As the synopsis says much better than I could...

In 1740, the Vatican is in turmoil. Grappling with a profound crisis of faith, outcast exorcist Father Franco Vieri is dispatched on a mission of grave importance — to rescue a Spanish nobleman from the clutches of the sadistic demon known as Legion. But when the exorcism goes tragically wrong, Vieri finds himself trapped in a stranger’s body… and learns what horrors lie ahead when the Devil wears his face.

The story takes place in 1740. What were the challenges of recreating the environment?

Trying to make sure that what I was drawing was accurate to the time period. My research included looking at portraits and folk art of the time and trying to get a feel of the era.

How did you get into comic books as a fan?

My older brother. I would look at whatever he had lying around and he would teach me about the characters. That’s how it all got started.

How did you get into art as a professional?

I was trying to make it as an animator for a while after college but nothing was panning out. After creating a Christmas cartoon I realized that I enjoyed creating the storyboards the most and thought that maybe comics might be worth a shot. I ended up getting a pinup in the back of an issue of Skullkickers which snowballed into a job on an anthology and another and another and I’m still doing it!

What tools do you use to draw?

I’ll sketch everything out by hand first, and then, since I started in animation, I will ink the book in [Adobe] Animate which used to be called "Flash." Then onto Photoshop where I’ll add some shading and lighting. I’ll then send it along to David to see if he likes it, and then I’ll color it in Photoshop.
