For Just $50,000, You Can Own Superman #1
Sep 01, 2020
Hundreds of heroes and villains fill the pages of comic books, but only a handful are lauded as the most significant characters in the medium. Among those top tier individuals is the most honorable, stalwart hero: Superman.
The Man of Steel has flown into Hake’s Auction #230 with one of his two most important key comics. In their current premier event, Hake’s is offering a copy of Superman #1 CGC Restored 6.0.
This issue was published in the summer of 1939, a year after Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster introduced Superman in Action Comics #1. His origin is told in a story by Siegel with cover and art by Shuster. Ranked No. 3 on Overstreet’s list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics, this book also features a Superman pin-up on the back cover.
From the Dan Makara Collection, this copy has off white to white pages. The CGC restoration note includes “Color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cleaned, reinforced.”
Major keys for all three members of the DC Trinity are in this auction. Superman #1 is joined by Batman #1 with the first appearance of Joker and Catwoman, All Star Comics #8 with Wonder Woman’s debut, and Sensation Comics #1 with Wonder Woman’s first cover appearance.
Hake’s Auction #230 is now open for bidding until Wednesday and Thursday, September 23-24, 2020.
