Actor Burt Ward — best known for his portrayal of Robin the Boy Wonder/Dick Grayson on the classic 1960s Batman TV series — was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 9.

“Burt Ward and his character Robin have been cult heroes for many years, to fans of all ages,” said Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez in announcing the star in December. “We are thrilled to honor Burt with his star and happy to have been able to place Ward’s star next to the star of television’s Batman, Adam West, and one of the creators of the Batman character, Bob Kane.”

Speakers at the ceremony included Maria Menounos (dressed as Batgirl), veteran entertainment correspondent Nancy O'Dell and filmmaker Kevin Smith.

In addition to his most famous role, Ward, now 74, (briefly) appeared on the doomed Earth-66 in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

According to Variety, “Over the decades since Batman, Ward has come to a deep understanding of what his heroic alter ego has meant to generations of viewers.

"'I had a gentleman come up to me and say, ‘I could have been on the other end of the law, but because I grew up watching Batman, I got into law enforcement. Now I’ve been years with the FBI.’ I realized that we really had a great responsibility when we played those roles to try to be positive influences on people.'"
