The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Award judges recognized IDW Publishing and its imprints, Top Shelf and Black Crown, with a combined six nods this year. The prestigious award ceremony, held annually at Baltimore Comic-Con, celebrates the creativity, skill, and fun of comic books with nominees selected by fans and pros alike.

IDW’s 2019 Ringo Nominees include:

  • Best Letterer: Todd Klein, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Tempest (Top Shelf/IDW)
  • Best Cover Artist: Sara Richard, Star Pig, Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons (IDW/Oni Press)
  • Best Series: The Highest House, by Mike Carey and Peter Gross
  • Best Anthology: Femme Magnifique: 50 Magnificent Women Who Changed the World, edited by Shelly Bond (Black Crown/IDW)
  • Best Humor Comic: Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons, by Patrick Rothfuss, Jim Zub, Troy Little, and Leonardo Ito (IDW/Oni Press)
  • Best Presentation in Design: Madman Quarter Century Shindig, by Mike Allred, designed by Shawn Lee, edited by Chris Ryall

Todd Klein is a legend in the field of lettering, and IDW congratulates him for his nomination for all his outstanding work this past year, particularly (though we might be biased) his amazing work on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Tempest,” says John Barber, Editor-in-Chief. “Sara Richard’s covers — on comics like Star Pig, My Little Pony, the upcoming Napoleon Dynamite, and on everything she does — are as innovative as they are beautiful. She has an uncanny ability to evoke a place, a time, and an emotion with every brushstroke.”

IDW Group Editor Denton Tipton says, “Mike, Peter, and Yuko are the best three-piece band since Nirvana, which also describes the state that The Highest House leaves its readers in. This honor was well earned and much deserved.”

“On behalf of my fellow curators, Brian and Kristy Miller of HiFi Colour Design, Black Crown/IDW, and over 100 of your favorite comics creators, thanks for the nomination. It’s such an honor to be in such esteemed company,” says Black Crown curator/editor Shelly Bond.

“Patrick Rothfuss, Jim Zub, Troy Little, and Leonardo Ito created something truly special with Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons. It was a blast to be along for the ride and I'm absolutely thrilled that everyone's hard work has been recognized by the fine folks at the Ringo Awards,” says Editor Chase Marotz.

Chris Ryall, IDW’s Publisher & President/CCO and Editor on the nominated Madman Quarter Century Shindig book, says, “Shawn Lee’s gorgeously ginchy designs for this special edition of Madman not only captured the antic look and feel of the series, it also paid glorious and fitting visual tribute to the great Michael Allred and his long-running character.”
