Indie Edge: Adam Green

Please tell us a bit about yourself!
I’m a writer and director of feature films and television series. I’ve made 10 films including the four Hatchet films in the franchise so far, the snowy suspense/thriller Frozen, and the genre-bending documentary-style creature feature, Digging Up the Marrow. My FEARnet sitcom, Holliston, has had two seasons so far, with a third season in the works.
What are your favorite projects you’ve contributed to over the past decade?
In addition to my various film and television projects I’ve also made about 100 short films and episodes of original web series with my production company, ArieScope Pictures, since we started 20 years ago. Over the past decade my favorite side projects have been my weekly podcast, The Movie Crypt, and my web series Scary Sleepover, where various celebrity artists join me for a childlike slumber party at my studio. I’ve done two seasons (29 episodes total) of Scary Sleepover so far, and filming each episode has been an absolute blast!
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on a new Young Adult television series that I created and sold to Universal/SyFy this past year. While it’s still too early in the process to reveal any details about the SyFy series, fans of my sitcom Holliston will be happy to know that I am planning to get started on the third season once the cast’s schedules can line up again. From the death of main cast member Dave Brockie (“Oderus Urungus” from the band GWAR) to our home network (FEARnet) being dissolved in a merger between Time Warner Cable and Comcast over the past few years, HOLLISTON has been through the kind of tragedies that would end most shows — but we’re going to keep going! Given the success of Victor Crowley (the fourth Hatchet film from earlier this year) it is inevitable that another Hatchet film will get under way once I am ready, but I’ve always taken a few years off between Hatchet sequels so that I can focus on my many other projects.
What fun titles are you reading?
Currently I’m reading and enjoying the hell out of Warrant Publishing’s The Creeps (Spooktacular! 2019 Annual / JUN182108) and The Walking Dead (see Page 92 & 93 of this issue!) from Image Comics. Having new Hatchet comics to look forward to every few months and new Holliston graphic novels to look forward to once a year has been insanely fun to be a part of. The second Holliston collection, Carnival of Carnage, just came out last week! I’m incredibly grateful for the terrific job that American Mythology (Hatchet) and Source Point Press (Holliston) are doing turning my creations into comics.
