Harlequin Romance Goes Manga!

Harlequin Romance books have long been a standard for readers eager to immerse themselves in passion, pleasure, and moonlight relationships. Harlequin's paperback novels sweep us up in tales about whirlwhind love affairs, and revelations that can destroy them. Kisses are long. Break-ups are ugly. Phone calls are life lines to landing that perfect somebody.

For the longest time - since Harlequins were available - these adventures have only played out in our imaginations. But now that the age of graphic novels has caught up with the successful paperback passions, readers can now put a face to their heroine, and their coveted Romeos.

Dark Horse Comics once again shows how it stays on the cutting edge of comics with a Harlequin Romance alliance. This partnership gives comics readers Harlequin Romance stories that are illustrated in the manga medium. Harlequin stories are certain to become even more popular with U.S. readers now that they'll be a part of shoujo entertainment.

Harlequin romance stories have already found a home as manga in Japan. Since 1998, hundreds of Harlequin titles have been converted to manga books through the Ohzora Publishing Company. Now Dark Horse's licensing agreement with Harlequin will bring a similar volume of stories to U.S. readers.

Two lines of titles will be served up from the Horse: "Harlequin Pink" and "Harlequin Violet." The pink line will be palatable to younger readers, whereas the violet line is better suited to mature readers who want sexier, sensual material.

From the Pink line comes the first release titled A Girl in A Million. Written by Betty Neels and illustrated by Kako Itoh, this book centers on a vacation fling that was completely out of character for Carol. She's an old-fashioned girl. She's not the type to just jump on some playboy's yacht for a fast trip to heartbreak. She takes things slow. But her attraction to Marius made her break her own rules, and she finds herself wondering what needs to be done to retain the affections of a sophisticated gentleman.

From the Violet line comes the book Response, written by Penny Jordan and illustrated by Takako Hashimoto. This story looks at love in the workplace, and how such emotions while on the clock can make life extremely complicated for Sienna. She may be just a temp, but that doesn't mean she can afford to lose her job! However, her boss is so hot that it makes her act like a school girl. Alex is gorgeous, and a smart, sexy man who is interested in her at the London firm where they both work. Sienna's almost blindsided by his affection, but when she learns there's more to his advances than she first thought, her love for him may not be in her best interests!
