Staff Picks (November): Strangers In Paradise XXV #1

Article Image 1fd8

Some years ago I wrote, “You know sometimes you take an old friend for granted and when they are gone you hate yourself for not being as attentive as you should have been with them.” This was when the last issue of Strangers in Paradise was being offered in PREVIEWS.  You knew you were going to miss these friends, but Terry Moore began introducing you to new friends from Julie in Echo, Rachel and Jet in Rachel Rising, and Sam in Motor Girl.

In an era of Facebook and Google if you wonder how your friends are doing you can find out. Comics characters, not so much.  With 2018 marking the 25th-anniversary of Strangers in Paradise we finally get to revisit old friends Francine and Katchoo and the always not so friendly Tambi in Strangers in Paradise XXV #1, the first of a planned 10-issue story arc.

Francine and Katchoo have found peace with their past and are enjoying their own bit of paradise. Every paradise seems to have a snake hiding in the grass, however, and this one is a reminder of the Parker Girls.  With their peaceful life threatened, you know Katchoo isn’t going to put up with that sh#t, with a little sisterly help from Tambi the hunt is on for their prey. As the ad says this month, “The Bitch is Back!”

A Terry Moore book is always a welcome addition to my reading (and collecting) list and when it’s Helen Francine Peters and Katina Marie ("Katchoo") Choovanski, coming back it’s like having your favorite meal from your favorite restaurant you’re never disappointed.
