Harry Moon’s Mark Andrew Poe will be signing his new book, Halloween Nightmares, at North Suburban YMCA of Chicagoland on Saturday, October 21, 2017. “Halloween is for heroes,” said Mark Andrew Poe. “There is nothing more heroic than what the North Suburban YMCA is doing in helping to raise up a value-based generation of young men and women.”

Mark Andrew Poe’s series, Harry Moon, involves a young, thirteen-year-old magician and his buddies who take back their hometown. The town is under an evil spell which makes every day Halloween night. “We love the hero messaging that the Harry Moon series brings to our kids— that they are strong and capable of making a difference with their own goodness. We are delighted that Rabbit Publishers (the publishing house for Harry Moon) is helping us to reinforce a positive environment with our children at the Y,” said Kim Nyren, Director of Community Investment at the Y. “We hope to involve Harry Moon in events at the Y through the years to come."

The North Suburban YMCA welcomes ghosts and goblins of all ages on October 22 for its 10th Annual Spooktacular Halloween Party. From 2:00 to 5:00 pm, the entire Y will be transformed with haunted houses, trick-or-treat trails, and a wide range of activities to entertain the entire family. The event will also offer exclusive early access for children with special needs from 1:30 to 2:00 pm. Mark Andrew Poe will be signing Halloween Nightmares from 3 to 5 at the Spooktacular.

“This is the 10th anniversary of this event and we could not be more pleased to have our two favorite organizations, North Suburban YMCA, and Rabbit Publishers celebrating it together,” said Jimmy Place and Teddie Kossof Salon and Spa in a joint statement. They are both sponsors of the YMCA.

The Y’s festival of frights and fun includes a one-of-a-kind Spooky Pool Boat ride, inflatable bounce houses, costume contest, children’s haunted maze and delicious treats. Guests can also take-home souvenirs including art projects, decorated pumpkins, photo booth pictures, and goodies from indoor trick-or-treating. This year the event will have a petting zoo, pony rides and a “Carnie” food court. Tiny But Mighty Foods will be serving up their delicious heirloom popcorn, as well as Dairy Queen’s Witches Brew and cotton candy.

This annual event, which draws over 1500 people in the Chicago, Illinois area, has attracted many local businesses to partake in this beloved tradition— Northbrook Bank & Trust, 22nd Century Media, Waterway Carwash, Layer 3 TV, Northwestern Medicine, Buffalo Wild Wings, Lowe’s Northbrook, Coldwell Banker Northbrook, Sunset Foods and many others.

“Without the excitement from our community and sincere support of our partners, events like these wouldn’t be possible,” says Kathy Fielding, NSYMCA Vice President of Member Engagement and Marketing. “In our tenth year, this party has grown into a fantastic community tradition that families look forward to attending every year. We have a wonderful range of activities from silly to scary, so there really is something for everyone.”

Admission to the Spooktacular Party is free for Y members, $20 per family for non-members. Guests are encouraged to bring gently-used shoes to the Y to donate for their shoe drive to help provide economic opportunity for workers in developing nations and support the environment.

Mark Andrew Poe’s new book, Halloween Nightmares (JAN179077), is available at your local comic shop. The Harry Moon and Honey Moon series is distributed in the general marketplace by Diamond Comic Distributors and in the faith community by Anchor Distribution.
