J.J. Abrams Replaces Director on Star Wars IX, Release Date Pushed to December

J.J. Abrams is stepping in to helm Star Wars: Episode IX after former director Colin Trevorrow left the project as the film's release date has been pushed from May to December. A statement from Lucasfilm and Disney confirmed the switch, "Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process, but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon."

Star Wars: Episode IX's release date was originally set for May 2019 has been shifted to December 20, 2019 to better accommodate the switch in direction.
