September is As Seen on TV month for PREVIEWS and we’re looking at show who were canceled too soon and continued their stories in comics. Whether it was a short-lived cult classic or a beloved series that left the fans wanting more, all types of television shows have made the jump from cable to comics.

After you’ve finished binge watching the box set, here’s five series that kept their characters and stories going in comics you should read.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus Season 8, Volume 1

Joss Whedon’s beloved cult classic series Buffy the Vampire Slayer is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and even thought the series ended in 2003 fans can pick up right where the cameras stopped with Dark Horse Comics Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus Season 8 Volume 1 (MAY170072). Co-written by Whedon himself, this is the official continuation of Buffy’s story as she leads the Slayers against the forces of evil while keeping her friends out of harm’s way. This volume also includes a Willow one-shot and other extras that fans of Buffy won’t want to miss out on.

Batman Beyond Vol. 1: Escaping The Grave

Batman Beyond, the series that followed the award winning and critically acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series wasn’t as long lived as its predecessor but became just as loved by fans; and now DC Comics has continued the story of Terry McGinnis with Batman Beyond Volume 1 (MAR170403). Terry is back in the bat-suit as he goes after a group of Jokerz who’ve turned an entire section of Gotham into their playground. Amid rumors that the original Joker has returned, it’s up to Terry to take down this gang of Jokerz before all of Gotham City turns into Jokerztown!

The X-Files Season 10, Volume 1

While the X-Files has recently returned to television with a mini-series revival, fans of Mulder and Scully looking for more sci-fi adventures can get their fix with IDW Publishing’s X-Files Season 10 volume 1 (OCT130418). Following the storyline from the second film, this is a direct continuation of the X-Files that takes Mulder and Scully into a new era. Facing technological paranoia, multinational concerns, and otherworldly threats, these agents of the supernatural will have to do more than just believe to make it out alive.

Invader Zim, Volume 1

Jhonen Vasquez’s cult classic Nicktoon is getting a second life as Oni Press brings everyone’s favorite alien back from the dead in Invader Zim volume 1 (OCT151564). Zim, GIR, Dib, and all the zany characters return as Zim gets a second chance to win over his fans and conquer the earth.
