Batman: White Knight #1

Back in the day, DC Comics published a line of stories that were set outside of regular DC continuity. That line of books came under the umbrella of "Elseworlds," and among the titles published were Kingdom Come and Batman: Thrillkiller. Although those books have come and gone, it is the subject of the last one we just mentioned that we'd like to pull out of the back issue box. Who doesn't love an alternate timeline story about the Dark Knight from time-to-time? Writer/artist Sean Murphy does, and he loves the idea so much that he does a word play on "Dark Knight" to create a seven-issue mini-series about a twisted Gotham City with a massive cast of heroes and villains. It's called Batman: White Knight #1 (AUG170269), and the premise is that Batman has gone too far, and The Joker of all people must be the one to save Gotham City. A new question arises, which is who is the hero and who is the villain? Look for the answer in this new title from DC Comics that you'll find in the August PREVIEWS catalog.

The Shadow/Batman #1

Two crimefighters that know the power of a clenched fist. That could be the opening line for whatever advertising you'd see for The Shadow/Batman #1 (AUG171470) from Dynamite Entertainment. Both heroes are quite compatible with one another because they're from the school that says it's better for your enemies to fear you than to earn their trust, or win the over through compromise. Writer Steve Orlando and artist Giovanni Timpano show that when it comes to fighting the World's Greatest Evil, you want these guys on the front line because they don't compromise, and never do even at the expense of their own lives. That fortitude is the only thing that has a chance against a blackness that lives inside the world that they protect 24-7. For centuries, this evil has waited for the present day. A day when it will rise to see the world fall. One can't help but ask that if Batman and the Shadow have to rip this cancer from the very heart of our planet...can it survive such evisceration? Look for the answers in the first issue of this series which you'll find listed in the August edition of the PREVIEWS comic shop catalog!

DC Batman: The Animated Series Figure Collection #1 — Batman

Back in the 90s, Warner Bros. introduced a cartoon version of the Dark Knight that was unlike what we saw in the Super Friends. This was a different version of Bruce Wayne's alter ego. It was the Dark Knight grim and gritty, and it had more in common with Frank Miller's version of the character than Adam West's portrayal in the 1960s TV show. Now with the DC Batman: The Animated Series Figure Collection #1 — Batman (AUG172664), you have memorabilia that perfectly captures the visage of the world's greatest detective as he typically stood in the opening credits of the famous animated TV show. This figure stands approximately 5" tall, and comes with a 12-page magazine focusing on the tenants and tales of Gotham City. Made by the people over at Eaglemoss, this figurine can be found in the August edition of the PREVIEWS comic shop catalog!
