The August 7 edition of Variety reports that Netflix has acquired Millarworld, the comic publisher founded by writer Mark Millar, and the home of such high-profile properties as Kick-Ass and Kingsman, among many others.

This deal marks Netflix’s first company acquisition, and it will “develop films, TV shows and kids’ series based on Millarworld’s portfolio of character franchises …Millarworld will also continue to create and publish new stories and character franchises under the Netflix label.”

The article cited that three Millarworld proprties — Wanted, Kick-Ass and Kingsman — have spawned theatrical films that, combined, have grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide.
