The Coming Storm of DC's Dark Nights

So what’s the deal with Dark Nights: Metal you ask?

Well, how about the fact that the bestselling creators behind Batman have decided to take on the entire DC Universe? How’s that for a summer blockbuster?

The bottom line is that writer Scott Snyder and artists Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion are on board to deliver Dark Nights: Metal #1 (JUN170232) as the launching pad for a six-issue mini-series that’s set to hit comic shops this month.

The book serves up a universe-spanning event that reaches into the darkest corners of the DC Universe that people have avoided for a number of reasons, both known and unknown. In either case, there are things that lurk behind shadows that you haven’t seen in the DC Universe — until now.

Forces beyond comprehension are said to push Batman, Superman, and the rest of the heroes in the Justice League to limits unimaginable. This isn’t some touchy-feely story that’s going to make you feel good about yourself, or let you pump a fist for your favorite hero. This is tantamount to walking onto a battlefield after the smoke has cleared. No promises can be made, and no hope can be given. So imagine the adrenaline rush when the people making this book tell us it’s going to be ramped-up roaring rollercoaster, despite the desolate landscape?

Scott Snyder has commented, “I’ve been planning METAL for as long as I’ve been writing Batman, but I want METAL to be built upon the stories happening now in Rebirth. Most of all, we want to create new material that feels really modern and different. And above all, it’s going to be fun. Even with terror and nightmares, it won’t be grim. Dark Nights: METAL will be celebratory, huge, and crazy.”

Artist Greg Capullo has said, “I’m looking forward to rock’n and roll’n together again. Fans have been loud and clear; they want more from us. We’re primed and ready to blow it up.”
