There’s no shortage of dead girls in entertainment. Just catch iZombie on The CW. But dead girls that parade around like strippers? That’s a tough order. Unless you get your hands on Zombie Tramp, which is now easier to do because the genesis of this comic series is finally seeing the light of day with Zombie Tramp: Origins #1 (MAY171032) that re-issues the cult hit original mini-series remastered, recolored, and available for the first time to comic stores. Check out our PREVIEWSworld Exclusive interview with series creator/writer Dan Mendoza!

Zombie Tramp: Origins #1 (MAY171032) is in comic shops July 5.

Vince Brusio: Rob Zombie is most likely proud of you for having created the ultimate living dead girl, Dan. Congrats on the success of Zombie Tramp.

Dan Mendoza: Thank you. It's been an awesome roller coaster ride.

Vince Brusio: If not for this book, we might not have seen Action Lab roll out Dollface. These kinds of books are at the top of the list for Action Lab. What is it that you think makes Zombie Tramp such a hit with the reading public?

Dan Mendoza: I think Zombie Tramp is such a success for a few reasons. There's the obvious reason, being that she's over-the-top sexy. But I think unlike a lot of "girlie" books out there, my content is heavily story-based, and people that pick up the book see that, and come back for more. Also I think that the character of Janey Belle (Zombie Tramp) has a greatly relatable persona. I put a lot of myself in her personality. Her outlook on humanity, and things about the pop culture world we live in that drives us nuts. Yes she has a big temper and murderous tendencies, but I think everyone can relate to those things, and her outbursts are things that we sometimes imagine ourselves doing, but our conscious prevents us from doing it.

Vince Brusio: For the new fans out there, how about giving us a primer as to what Zombie Tramp is all about, and how fans can take advantage of the solicitations in the May PREVIEWS to get caught up on the Zombie Tramp legacy?

Dan Mendoza: Zombie Tramp tells the story about an ex-call girl who's life had been dumped on until she died. After awaking as a mystical zombie, she begins to wander across America, hunting down those who ruined her life, while at the same time, trying to figure out her place in the world, and why she is plagued with bad karma.

Vince Brusio: What inspired you to create the book? What past works were a prelude to your own production? Do you find yourself reflecting on any works of your past heroes, and using that as a road map for future fits of imagination?

Dan Mendoza: My inspiration comes from my love foe horror slasher movies and 70's grindhouse. I wanted to create a horror icon that was female. There's not many out there. The genre is ruled by Jason, Freddy, and Chucky.

I have a box in my garage of a bunch of stories and characters that I created throughout the years. I go through them once in a while for ideas, but mostly all my ideas are new.

Vince Brusio: Issue #37 (MAY171026) which is currently being solicited in the May PREVIEWS catalog is listed as the 3-year anniversary issue.  So how does this issue commemorate such a birthday?

Dan Mendoza: For this issue which I will be drawing, there will be a giant turning point in the storyline as more will be revealed about Janey and Xula's past. That's all I can say.

Vince Brusio: What are your future plans for the character, and does it involve the possibility of crossovers? Or would you rather Zombie Tramp just stay in her own cemetery?

Dan Mendoza: There’s going to be a ton of crossovers between Zombie Tramp, Dollface, and Vampblade. We're even starting up a mini-series called Danger Doll Squad, in which the 3 vixens are forced to team up for a common goal.
