Floriana Lima Joins the Cast of Supergirl

In an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter it was announced that the cast of Supergirl is expanding for its second season on The CW with the addition of Floriana Lima as the character of Maggie Sawyer. The DC Comics character of Maggie Sawyer first appeared in 1987 as a captain of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit and later made history as one of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics.

Supergirl's executive producer Greg Berlanti spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the importance of adding this character to the show, "I wanted to contemporize these comics that I loved growing up and have them reflect the society that we live in now. It's still about working in some of those very real qualities so that everyone feels represented."
