Staff Picks (August14): Heavy Metal Magazine #271
Jul 16, 2014
Publisher: Heavy Metal Magazine
It’s not often that I write a staff pick about a book that is not a first issue (and the first issue of Heavy Metal hit the stands back in 1977). However, this issue of Heavy Metal is a great jumping-on point from the creative minds at Asylum Press. This special Halloween horror issue that has been created and edited by the gang that brought us Fearless Dawn and Zombie Terrors! Since Heavy Metal’s inception it has become known for its racy content and the magazine has carved out its place in American culture. The has magazine featured short stories from top creators such as Luis Royo, Jim Steranko, Steve Stiles, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and legions of others during the decades it has been in published.
In August's PREVIEWS we are adding Asylum Press to the long list of storied creators whom have shared their talent with the world through Heavy Metal Magazine. Steve Mannion is set to introduce Heavy Metal readers to the sexy bombshell that is Fearless Dawn. If you are a fan of the Dark Horse’s The Goon or the Adult Swim TV show Venture Brothers you’ll feel right at home with the quirky sense of humor that is laced into Mannion’s Fearless Dawn stories. Representing the horror side of Asylum Press, William Broad is going to show us what horrible things happen when the Templar turn their back on their faith.
Be sure to pick up your copy of Heavy Metal #271 this October and don’t forget to check out the new printing of The Bomb featuring Fearless Dawn and Steve Mannion’s new Sketchbook Bombs Babes and Brutes in from Asylum Press in this issue of PREVIEWS!
