Chastity Returns! Interview with writer Marc Andreyko

This is most definitely not your father's vampire! Dynamite continues its exploration into the CHAOS! universe with CHASTITY #1 (MAY141258)!

PREVIEWSworld talked with writer Marc Andreyko about the series!

PREVIEWSworld: What are your thoughts on the revival of the CHAOS! universe and CHASTITY'S place in it?

Marc Andreyko: Everything old is new again in this reboot culture and these characters have retained their resonance. The cool thing about Chastity is that, in terms of the CHAOS! universe, she is the most relatable. She isn't an Egyptian vampire goddess or a demonic mass murder; she is a kid thrown into circumstances which she struggles to understand. And once she does, she has an unending desire to avenge her family and put an end to vampires - one at a time if need be.

PREVIEWSworld: CHASTITY is set in the 1980s, a distinctive era in look and attitude. How does the time period play a role in Chastity's story?

Marc Andreyko: Rachel Rising by Terry Moore is probably the best horror comic out there right now. And thematically, there are similarities with mysteries of the past, discovering what the leads have become, and struggling to fight against pure evil. CHASTITY is much more "big movie" in tone as opposed to Rachel Rising's Lynchian creeping terror, but both are anchored by strong females and their journeys against the horror around them.

PREVIEWSworld: How do you think the existing CHAOS fan base - still rabid after all these years - will view the direction of the new CHASTITY?

Marc Andreyko: I hope they dig it. I'm not changing things for changes' sake, I'm taking what was done before and hopefully adding a few more layers of depth and complexity, especially on the emotional side. But fear not, there will be a ton of bloody vampire action!
