Joe's Comics Takes Off With Ten Grand and Sidekick

J. Michael Straczynski's Image Comics imprint Joe's Comics is off and running with two titles and lots more to come. The first series released was Ten Grand, which has issue #4 (JUN130565) coming out on August 7th.

It's a love story, inside a murder mystery, inside a supernatural story about a former criminal who makes a deal with an angelic force upon the last moments of his life for the chance to reunite with the woman he loves, now deceased. He's willing to endure an eternity of pain and suffering if it means seeing his lost love.

"Everytime he's killed in a righteous cause he gets to see his love for four or five minutes. What would you do for love is the question? How far would you go?" said Straczynski.

Also coming out August 7th is the first issue of Sidekick (JUN130425), which is the story of the Cowl and his sidekick Flyboy who were famous, popular, and happy until the Cowl's assassination.  Now, no one takes Flyboy seriously.

So what was the motivation behind writing Sidekick?

"As a kid growing up I felt I could become Batman or become the Flash, but Robin was already my age and could do stuff I couldn't do, which always just annoyed the hell out of me. So I figured I'm going to get even finally," explained Straczynski. "We're going to beat the crap out of this guy for twelve issues, humiliate him, embarass him and eventually follow him into a long descent into madness."

At New York Comic-Con in October, Joe's Comics will launch Protectors Inc. about a homicide detective that investigates a murder among those with super powers.

In 2014 they are bringing back two books formerly under Marvel's Icon imprint - The Book of Lost Souls with art from Colleen Doran and Dream Police with art from Sid Kotian.

Also next year Straczynski will create a special six-issue limited series called Alone with art from Bill Sienkiewicz. Alone will try to reinvent how a comic is done visually and structurally in ways that have not been done before.
