MEDICOM TOY REAL ACTION HEROES (RAH) Figures are know around the world for their fine craftmanship and costume tailoring.
In 2012, the company released two RAH figures based on the best-selling series BATMAN HUSH by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. MEDICOM TOY started with Batman and Joker figures and will now continue the "Hush" line with CATWOMAN and HARLEY QUINN.
TOYCHESTnews was lucky enough to catch up with MEDICOM TOY's CEO Tatsuhiko Akashi to talk about the new DC Comics RAH 1/6 scale figures that you can pre-order now at your local comic shop!
TOYCHESTnews.com: Talk about how you decided to do RAH figures based on the BATMAN HUSH storyline?
Tatsuhiko Akashi: We received a proposal from Diamond Comics if MEDICOM TOY can release a comic version of RAH BATMAN, just when we were internally discussing about releasing a RAH at the same period.
We suggested that if MEDICOM TOY is to release a comic version of BATMAN, "HUSH" which is a popular series illustrated by Jim Lee and which has never been released in a 12 inch figure will be the one. Diamond Comics agreed with the plan, so we first released BATMAN and JOKER which are the two important characters in the story.
TOYCHESTnews.com: Your new BATMAN Hush: RAH releases are CATWOMAN and HARLEY QUINN. Can you take us through the process of how you create these figures?
Tatsuhiko Akashi: The feedback from the market for BATMAN and JOKER was very positive and many were looking forward for the next one. Diamond Comics was also interested and we received a suggestion "how about releasing a female character you can place next to BATMAN and JOKER?" and we ended up releasing CATWOMAN and HARLEY QUINN.
After we decide which product to release, we produce the original mold and ask the licenser for approval on the color sample, release information on media, produce mold, revising and creating test shots, print package designs, receiving approval from licenser for the final test shot, produce the product and distribute and release the product.

TOYCHESTnews.com: The tailored costumes on these figures are very detailed. Please give us an overview of the CATWOMAN and HARLEY QUINN figures?
Tatsuhiko Akashi: Both are glamorous female characters illustrated by Jim Lee so we upgraded the regular RAH female body by placing a volume-up parts on the bottom and reproduced the form. We also made the balance of the body's proportion as same as the comic and made the figure with a beautiful curve with the suits on.
For CATWOMAN, the belt can be replaced with a whip replacement and the goggles can be taken off.
As for HARLEY QUINN, we used a white cloth for the base of the costume and printed red and black so that the colors will not get dull. We also have the big hand gun that always appears.
TOYCHESTnews.com: Finally, what is your favorite part about being a collectible toy creator?
Tatsuhiko Akashi: You can produce products with persistence and love without considering not only about the market needs.
CATWOMAN and HARLEY QUINN are scheduled to ship on February 26, 2014! SRP: $199.99 |
