Humpty Dumpty Gets Mean and Nasty

IDW Publishing and Revenger Comics recently launched Billy Majestic’s Humpty Dumpty (AUG110386), a horrifyingly new take on an old familiar character. The story — created and written by Billy Majestic and developed by Revenger Comics — is currently in pre-production as a major motion picture. In the story, two backwoods brothers (Petus and Pervis Brakk) ambush a group of extraterrestrial beings who crash-land on their swampland property. The brothers capture the alien female and secretly keep her prisoner. After a month of captivity, the now-pregnant alien escapes into the swampland, where she gives birth to a monstrous half-human, half-alien creature, who exacts revenge on the sadistic Brakk brothers.

In a phone interview I spoke with Revenger's Madison Jones, who elaborated on the mechanics of Humpty Dumpty. I first asked him if he thought describing it as Close Encounters of the Demented Kind meets Deliverance was appropriate.

He laughed. "I think it's a creature feature in the spirit of Aliens, Predator, and The Thing. But we're big comics fans over here. We really are."

I said to Madison, "This book, for me, came out of nowhere. One minute it was 'Humpty D-...what the heck...?' And then, after thumbing through it, I was quickly typing in a reply email that I absolutely love this thing. It's twisted beyond belief. So I'm hooked!"

"Well," Madison chuckled, "Humpty Dumpty has been a labor of love for all of us at Revenger. We couldn't be more excited to join IDW in bringing it to fans who have hung in there with us for the two years it took to complete it. We look forward to getting him to the big screen, too, and keeping the weirdness going. But this is just the beginning for us at Revenger. Check out the other properties on our site."

After I clicked on a link that was provided in my original email, I noticed several other characters that also appeared to have a home at Revenger.

"We launched on Halloween," Madison continued, "My company got a three-year deal with Universal Pictures. So we're hoping to make some of the Revenger properties with the people at Universal."

"Nice," I replied, scrolling through their web site. "Okay, well, coming back to this book I have in my hands here. This may be premature to ask but...any chance for a sequel?"

"Oh, yes. The sequel's actually called Escape From Level 27. And we already have the script for it. We're trying to decide which direction to go, though, because we want to stay with the same artwork. But this thing took so long to do it this way, we're being careful moving forward. We'd like it to go a little faster this time, but we want to keep the same quality of artwork."

That was something I hoped I would hear, as the artwork is the first thing that jumps out at you when you flip through the book. The artwork is simply amazing. And if you're a horror fan, the blood and gore factor is TOP NOTCH.

"Hey, one last question," I asked Madison. "What kind of music would you want as a soundtrack? Would heavy metal work for you?"

Madison laughed. "It depends. Heavy metal could work, sure. But if it's creepy enough, it could be country, it...could even be a child tinkering away on a little play toy piano, if it works right. Why not?"
