Staff Picks (May): Invader Zim #1

Prepare yourself for DOOM!!!

Perhaps THE quirkiest and zaniest of all animated television shows will be making its highly anticipated return this July in comic book form. In a collaboration between original creator Jhonen Vasquez and Nickelodeon, Invader Zim #1 will see its way onto shelves with all-new, original content produced by many of the creative minds behind the show.

Originating as one of the most out-of-the-box cartoon programming that Nickelodeon has ever put out, Invader Zim features an eclectic cast centered on Zim—a small Irken Alien with the responsibility of bringing humanity to its knees. Accompanied by Gir, the loveable robot hiding incognito as a green dog, Zim plots total annihilation of the human race as he avoids being discovered by Dib, the only human to realize that Zim is quite noticeably an alien.

Getting the creative gang together again from the show, Eric Trueheart, Invader Zim show writer, pairs with Invader Zim character designer Aaron Alexovich to bring their quirky, eerie, dramatic storytelling to the world of comics. Complimented by inks from Megan Lawton and featuring colors by Rikki Simons (the original colorist for the television show), the creative team makes this the single most doom-inducing comic that will hit stands this summer!

Maybe this time around Zim will actually conquer Earth? Who knows!?!
