Independent publisher Drawn + Quarterly celebrates two momentous milestone events this month; their own 25th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of Adrian Tomine's seminal comic series, Optic Nerve!
To commemorate these two milestones, D+Q is pulling out all of the stops and bringing us two books that all comics fans will be sure to enjoy. Along with the extensive backlist collection of Adrian Tomine's collected works, we welcome onto the stands Optic Nerve #14 which is quintessential Tomine; the capturing of the raw reality of everyday life through a classic, emotive narrative and clean-lined, clear art style. Beautifully constructed, Tomine brings a unique style to independent publishing reminiscent of Dan Clowes and Gilbert Hernandez, but with his own distinctive flavor. But the true gem this month has to be the book Drawn + Quarterly: Twenty-Five Years of Contemporary Cartooning, Comics, and Graphic Novels! D+Q has always been known for bringing the comics world a vast array of award-winning, high quality titles ranging from the works of Adrian Tomine, Art Spiegelman, Guy Delilse, Rutu Modan, and many, many more. The culmination of their twenty-five years of publishing is this book. An 800-page tome D+Q brings us hundreds of pages of new content from classic alternative press creators to new indie darlings. As D=Q describes this is a “thank you letter” to all of the creators who have supported them throughout the years and what a beautiful thank you letter it truly is!
This is book is not only an absolute must have for any independent comics fan, but it is also a great way to be introduced to this unique comics scene that D+Q has dominated for twenty-five year!
