Staff Picks (January): Hellbreak #1

Hellbreak, the newest series from Sixth Gun writer Cullen Bunn and artist Brian Churilla (Big Trouble in Little China) is action packed and set to send every demon possessing some hapless human straight back to hell!

While working in conjunction with the Catholic Church, Project Kerberos has designed and begun utilizing technology that allows them to send small teams from our reality into Hell and back. They’ve discovered that there isn’t just one Hell but a whole mess of them and it’s their job to visit those various underworlds to save lost souls of people whose bodies are possessed by demonic forces. Imagine a team with fantastic technology, the skills of Seal Team Six, and a leader who can throw down with demons and has the business acumen to sell a program to clients where the basic service is going to Hell.

Veteran team members of Project Kerberos note that they’ve taken several trips to various Hells and come back alive and for the most part unscathed. One wonders while reading this title what sort of enemies this team builds on each trip to the afterlife. Will they one day become permanent residents in one of the underworlds the team has visited or is there a special Hell waiting for them shaped by their own actions?
