Staff Picks (Aug13): Imagine Agents #1
Jul 12, 2013
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Everyone had an imaginary friend when they were younger. It’s a childhood staple like juice boxes and tree forts. Imagine Agents from BOOM! Studios brings you a series about those invisible friends and the agents keeping them in line.
This series makes me think of a mash-up of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends meets Men in Black, minus the talking pug. I’ve read the first issue and quite enjoyed it because it’s friendly enough for me to feel comfortable giving my nieces and nephews to read, but on a level where I don’t feel like I’m reading a children’s book. Furdlegurr is, by far, the cutest imaginary friend I have ever been introduced to and that is all I can say without giving away plot spoilers. The entire concept that “imaginary” friends are actually real makes you think twice about whether or not your child sees an “imaginary” friend, or if that friend is real, and you just can’t see them.
It’s a little like Toy Story; it’s up to them whether or not you see them move/talk/live. Pick up a copy of Imagine Agents when it hits stores late-summer/early-fall. Pick up a copy for yourself, or for your child, or for that special youngster next door. It’s a heartwarming, cuddly tale for all-ages.
