Staff Picks (January 13): Drew Hayes' Poison Elves #1
Dec 14, 2012
Publisher: Ape Entertainment
Don’t call it a comeback! Seriously. Poison Elves, the titular work of Drew Hayes, returns. This is not a reprint, a side story, or a one-shot. This is an ongoing continuation of the original series!
Hayes, while often compared to independent comics legend Dave Sim of Cerebus fame, did not have the opportunity to enjoy the same lengthy career due to his untimely death in March of 2007 to a heart attack.
Life was not kind to main character Lusiphur Malache. As an orphan, he was raised by a family who owned an inn in the town of Port Sarnwog. After losing their business in a fire Lusiphur’s mother is forced into prostitution and eventually paralyzed during a brutal attack by a patron. She begs her adopted son to help her commit suicide to end her suffering and orphaning Lusiphur again, sending him tumbling towards a life of organized crime.
