The original Bob Montana cover for Pep Comics #30 sold in ComicConnect’s Original Art Marketplace for $125,000. The cover features MLJ’s patriotic hero, The Shield, bashing a Nazi while the Hangman strangles a goon from the Land of the Rising Sun. Montana, the illustrator of this piece, and the mastermind behind everyone's favorite teenager, Archie Andrews, is credited with both the pencils and inks on this action-packed cover.

This cover features several elements that make it an instant classic, according to Vincent Zurzolo, COO of ComicConnect and Curator at Metropolis Gallery. “Plus, I believe this unique piece is the only existing superhero Pep cover in existence. Not only have I never seen another, but I have also never heard that one might be out there somewhere,” he said.

ComicConnect also reported marketplace sales of the Greg Capullo cover to Batman #1 (2011) for $49,000, the cover for the PX Edition of Icons: The DC Comics Art of Jim Lee sold for $18,500, and Shield-Wizard Comics #7 page 4 by Irv Novick featuring a classic Shield vs Nazi battle page went for $7,000.

“Investment art collectors should visit ComicConnect’s Original Art Marketplace often as great pieces are listed daily,” Zurzolo said. “Also, stop by Metropolis Gallery, there’s always something interesting to add to your portfolio.”
