Quantcast

Did you know that the Jetsons and the Flintstones, though their time periods are separated by thousands of years, eventually meet up and become friends? The prehistoric/futuristic family adventure takes place in the 1988 movie, The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones and premiered as an animated telefilm, produced by Hanna Barbara and distributed by Great American Broadcasting.

It begins in the future with son of George Jetson, Elroy, working on a time machine. George is summoned by Mr. Spacely, his boss, to discuss how his business rival, Mr. Cogswell has been stealing all of his production ideas. Spacely orders George to figure out the problem by spying on the opposing company. Disguised as Cogswell’s robot dog, George finds out Cogswell's new robot, S.A.R.A., has been seducing R.U.D.I., Spacely’s robot, to give “her” private information.

In the meantime, thousands of years in the past, Wilma and Betty are trying to convince Fred and Barney to take them on vacation to the tropical and relaxing Honolurock. Fred, ignoring their pleas, is convinced he can take them to a better destination with the money he plans to win at the poker game he will be attending after work. Unfortunately, Mr. Slate, Fred’s boss, wants he and Barney to work late but the two quickly decide to go anyway, believing Mr. Slate will never find out. Little did they know that Mr. Slate was also at the poker game and in order for Fred to participate in the card game, he disguised himself as a rich Texan and Barney dresses as his lady friend. It was only a matter of time until Barney is found out, as well as Fred. Needless to say, Mr. Slate is furious and fires them both.

Flashing forward once again, Elroy is finishing up his time machine. George refuses to believe that it works, but Elroy proves him wrong by sending an Arabian girl he brought to his time, back to hers. George decides that he wants to take a little family vacation to the 25th century but right when Elroy gets the machine ready to go, the family dog, Astro, kicks the switch of the time machine to “Past.”

With both the Flintstones and Rubbles out of jobs, the two families settle for a camping trip in the middle of nowhere. While Barney and Fred are setting up the tent, the Jetsons show up seemingly from thin air. Both families mistake each other for aliens until Fred and George eventually call out a peace offering.
