Among upcoming comic book highlights already posted to the Winter Featured Auction Preview is an uncommonly high grade example of Captain America Comics #1 (first Captain America and origin, first Bucky, first Red Skull) CGC 7.5, Near Mint and higher runs of major Marvel Silver Age titles, including Journey Into Mystery, Thor, and Fantastic Four from the Federal Hill Collection. This amazing collection is comprised of over 2,000 mostly Marvel Silver and Bronze Age books all in CGC 9.4 or higher, with an average grade of 9.6. These meticulously curated runs include many examples from some of the top pedigree collections in the hobby. Another outstanding Silver Age Marvel key is Tales to Astonish #13 (first Groot) CGC 9.2 (one of the top two graded by CGC).
The Federal Hill run of Journey Into Mystery and Thor includes Journey Into Mystery #83 CGC 9.4 first appearance of Thor. This is one of a handful of the best existing examples of a major Silver Age key (only one 9.6 exists). There’s also Journey Into Mystery #85 (first Loki, Odin and Asgard) CGC 9.6 (highest graded, one of four) plus dozens of other examples from the Journey Into Mystery and Thor runs all in Near Mint or better condition.
The Federal Hill run of Fantastic Four includes such highlights as #12 (first Hulk crossover) CGC 9.6 and #20 (first Molecule Man) and #26 (Avengers crossover) both in CGC 9.8 (both highest graded, one of two), Annual #6 (first Annihilus, Birth of Franklin Richards) CGC 9.8, plus dozens of other Near Mint or higher examples from Marvel’s Silver Age flagship title. Also, in the Auction Preview is Fantastic Four #4 (first Silver Age Sub-Mariner) CGC 9.2 and #5 (first Dr. Doom) in CGC 9.2.
Upcoming DC highlights include Batman #49 CGC 9.6 (highest, one of two) featuring a classic Joker cover and the first appearances of Vicky Vale and the Mad Hatter. There’s also examples of several of the early Batman appearances in Detective Comics including #29 (second Batman cover) and #38 (first Robin) and some of the earliest Superman cover appearances in Action Comics, including #7 (second Superman cover), #10 (third Superman cover) and #23 (first Luthor).
