The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #49 from Gemstone Publishing made its debut in comic shops across North America and in specialty shops around the world on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. It will reach traditional bookstores and online booksellers in less than two weeks.

The Bible of serious comic book collectors, dealers, and historians since it was first published in 1970, The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is released each July by Gemstone Publishing. Compiled by founder Robert M. Overstreet and an extensive roster of Overstreet Advisors, the Guide offers insight into the complex and exciting comic book market.

In addition to new prices, new feature articles, new additions to the Overstreet Hall of Fame, and new market reports, this year’s Guide includes features on Batman’s 80th anniversary, Zorro’s 100th anniversary from Toth and McGregor, and a remembrance of Stan Lee, among many other articles. All versions of the Guide except the Hero Initiative exclusive edition are available directly from Gemstone Publishing.

The main cover this year was provided by DC Comics writer and artist Tony Daniel (Batman, Detective Comics) and features some of Batman’s most notorious villains – the Joker, the Riddler, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and the Penguin – in the middle of a Batcave takeover. The $29.95 softcover will be available in comic shops, traditional bookstores, and from online booksellers, while the $35 hardcover will be available exclusively from comic shops.

Diego Galindo brought his talent to a variant cover celebrating the cult classic Firefly, with a piece of art featuring Mal, Zoe, and Jayne. This cover captures the vibe of the characters in Galindo’s signature style that can also be found on the covers of BOOM’s Firefly comic series. Available exclusively from comic book stores, it is available in softcover and a hardcover.

Superstar artist Michael William Kaluta (The Shadow) turns his attention to the 100th anniversary of Zorro for this year’s Hall of Fame cover. This 4th annual “Overstreet Hall of Fame” edition pays tribute to the iconic pulp hero and is available in limited quantities in both hardcover and softcover format.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take over the cover for the Hero Initiative limited edition fundraiser hardcover release of the Guide. Alan Davis (Uncanny X-Men, Avengers) brought a classic lineup of the Avengers to this cover, with Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, and the Wasp taking center stage. The Hero Initiative edition will be available exclusively from the 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to helping comic book creators in need. An extremely limited number of copies will be available from Hero’s webstore on the Graham Crackers Comics site, and through a select group of participating Hero Initiative retailers.

The Big, Big Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #49 is an oversized version of the book that includes larger print but strips away all of the ads, articles, and other non-pricing information. It is produced in a limited edition and is available only in the comic book market. This year’s edition of this oversized favorite celebrates the 25th anniversary of Billy Tucci’s Shi, with a brand-new piece of artwork by Tucci himself. The squarebound edition has already sold out through Gemstone, but may still be found at comic retailers in limited quantities; it carries a cover price of $49.50.
