The results are in from Pedigree Comics, Inc.’s recently completed November Grand Auction. The auction ran from Monday, October 30 to Thursday, November 9, 2017 in the separate Grand Auction section of their website (www.PedigreeComics.com). There were 576 CGC- and CBCS-certified comic books to choose from and almost every book sold, for a total of $689,745. There has also been a slew of post-auction sales on these coveted CGC-certified 9.8 books which brings the total number to over $740,000.

“The auction did extremely well, particularly the super high grade, investment quality Silver and Bronze Age 9.8 Marvels and DCs. Most of the books in the auction sold for at or above GPA prices and a bunch set a new record sales price,” Pedigree Comics President and CEO Doug Schmell said. “The highlight of the auction was the incredible consignment of just under 200 CGC-graded 9.8 Silver and Bronze Age DCs from a phenomenal collection. The consignor had many highest graded individual issues plus runs of titles and almost all of these books did way beyond his and my expectations. The Action Comics, Adventure Comics, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, and especially the Thor sold like hotcakes and smashed previous sales records. In fact, most of the 9.8 Thor [comics] sold for more than double of the most recent sales!”

“We also had a phenomenal brand new run of CGC-certified Hulk comics (Incredible Hulk #2-6 and #102-182 all in 9.4 and higher) and these books sold very briskly as well. I noticed many new registrants on the site and many of them were bidding on these new Hulk comics,” Schmell said.

“There were many Bronze Age Marvel [comics] in super high grade (9.6 and 9.8) and these books also did amazing, exceeding my and the consignors’ expectations. These 1970s (and early 1980s) keys show no sign of slowing down,” Schmell added. “They are the usual suspects (Amazing Adventures #11, Amazing Spider-Man #121, Amazing Spider-Man #129, Batman #232, Daredevil #168, Giant-Size X-Men #1, Incredible Hulk #181, Iron Fist #1, Iron Fist #14, Marvel Feature #11, Marvel Premiere #15, Special Marvel Edition #15, Tomb of Dracula #1, Tomb of Dracula #10, etc.) but they continue to sell at GPA and above GPA prices and set new sales records as well. I want to thank all of my customers who bid and purchased books in this auction and I want to thank all of my consignors as well.”

Pedigree is now accepting consignments for their February 2018 Grand Auction. Consigning books sooner means that they will receive more exposure. Pedigree promotes and advertises each auction and sends periodic newsletters to all of their over 23,500 customers announcing the auction items. Pedigree also offers cash advances for quality consignments so check the site for consignment instructions and get your books in now.

The higher the value of the comics sold in a Grand Auction, the more money the consignor takes home under Pedigree Comics’ Climbing Scale as follows:

9% Commission

5% Commission
for any consigned item that sells over $100,000 (Consignor's Proceeds = 95% of the final bid)

There are three easy ways to consign your books to Pedigree’s upcoming February 2018 Grand Auction. The only criteria is that the books must be CGC or CBCS graded and worth no less than $100. If you have high grade raw books that you want to have certified and sold in the February Auction or a future Grand Auction, you can utilize Pedigree’s Raw To Riches Consignment Service, in which they will have your books certified under their account and will lay out all the CGC or CBCS grading fees in advance for you (refer to the website and their Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide advertisement for all the details of the Raw to Riches Consignment Service).

To consign you can ship your books directly to their offices in Wellington, Florida. They will inventory, scan, and upload each book into the Grand Auction listing. The books will be listed under your personal account and you will receive email notification at the conclusion of the auction with a list of every consigned book that sold along with the winning bid made.

Email the scans of the books you wish to consign directly to them at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com. They will format and upload each scan onto their server and then put each book into the Grand Auction listing. Use a .jpeg format with the resolution set at 72 and the pixel width at 1200 for optimum clarity. If you do not have a scanner you can use a digital camera.

You can upload your own scans, item information, book or art descriptions and reserve amounts, if any, by utilizing their Automated Consignment System. Just register onto the site and login, click the “Customer Page” tab under “Your Account” and then click “Consignments” (under the “Auctions” heading). You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and list your own CGC or CBCS certified books. Pedigree will receive an email once you have uploaded the scan and book or art information for each individual item into the system and they will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The items will then be added to the Grand Auction listing to be bid on. You will be amazed how simple it is to use the Automated Consignment System.
