Bidding is underway for the Original Art Session of the ComicLink Summer Featured Auction and there are numerous highlights within it. “In the many years of conducting original art auction sessions within our Featured Auctions, this may just be the best selection we’ve ever offered,” ComicLink President Josh Nathanson said.

Highlights include covers and works by Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Neal Adams, Bernie Wrightson, and Andy Kubert. They have the Kirby/Joe Sinnott cover to Fantastic Four #77 with the entire team as well as Silver Surfer and Galactus (the only Silver Age Fantastic Four cover that has surfaced featuring the cosmic entities), the first Gambit appearance on the Kubert cover of Uncanny X-Men #266, two Frank Frazetta oil paintings (including what appears to be the first horror-themed oil painting of his career), the Neal Adams cover to Justice League of America #92 with Solomon Grundy defeating Superman amidst fallen JLA and JSA teams, and a Wrightson Frankenstein Monster illustration art plate from A Marvel Illustrated Novel, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s Frankenstein.

You’ll also find two complete EC stories, one by Graham Ingels and one by George Evans; John Romita’s cover for Daredevil #105, the important origin of Moondragon issue and a prime era Romita page from Amazing Spider-Man #68 featuring Spider-Man and the Kingpin; John Romita Jr.’s memorable cover for Daredevil: Man Without Fear #1; a George Pérez page from Infinity Gauntlet #1 featuring Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet for the first time in order to wipe out half the universe; two prime era John Byrne pages from Avengers #165 and Byrne’s memorable cover from Action Comics #593 featuring the notorious Superman and Big Barda story; and Jim Starlin artwork including a Marvel Two-in-One Annual #2 page featuring the Avengers vs. Thanos and a page from the historic Iron Man #55 featuring Iron Man and Drax vs. the Blood Brothers.

Additional art is important Love and Rockets art by Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez including Gilbert’s page one title splash from the very first issue; Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo Spawn #33 artwork including a couple of strong splash pages; Geof Darrow Hardboiled #2 intense page; Rich Buckler Wonder Woman #250 cover; Hal Foster three Prince Valiant Sunday pages; Don Heck Tales of Suspense #66 Iron Man title splash and Tales of Suspense #67 page featuring Iron Man vs. the Crimson Dynamo; Alex Saviuk Web of Spider-Man #35 cover featuring black costumed Spidey in a tribute to Ditko’s Amazing Spider-Man #8 cover; and Michael Turner Wizard Millennium cover featuring Supergirl, and the ladies of Witchblade, Fathom, and Soulfire. The original art section closes on Tuesday, September 19 starting at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

This is also the last weekend to bid in the strong vintage comic book portion of the ComicLink Summer Featured Auction with the first lots closing this coming Tuesday night, September 12 starting at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. Over 1,400 comic book lots end over three evenings on Tuesday through Thursday, September 12-14.

ComicLink is currently accepting consignments for upcoming auctions including the September Focused Auction which will begin on September 20, the October Focused Auction, and Fall Featured Auction which will begin on November 15 (a preview will post soon with some initial highlights). ComicLink will be set-up at a couple of conventions in the near future and taking consignments right at the firm’s booth. They’ll be at Baltimore Comic-Con on September 22-24. Senior Consignment Director Douglas Gillock and Sales Consultant Jon Signorelli will be attending the show and available to speak with you all weekend long at in booth 507. Then they’ll be at New York Comic Con on October 5-8 at the Javits Center. Nathanson, Gillock, and Signorelli will be attending the show and available to speak with you all weekend at booth 2622.
