The Walking Dead #163
The Whisperer War is over, the dust has settled, and now is the perfect time to start reading The Walking Dead. Image Comics has outdone themselves, celebrating their 25th anniversary with events at comic shops all over for Image Day on February 1st and by offering The Walking Dead #163 (DEC160627) for only twenty-five cents! Rick and his followers have somewhat survived their latest battle in The Whisperer War, but it doesn’t feel like they’ve truly won anything. The unending apocalyptic nightmare continues in the new story arc of “Conquered,” but who or what will be conquered?
Paper Girls #11
Image Comics' wild science fiction series Paper Girls is back from the award-winning creative team of Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang with an all new story arc in Paper Girls #11 (DEC160678). After encountering strange beings and being teleported from 1988 to the terrifying future of 2016, the girls are finally able to reunite with their long-lost friend KJ. Now as Erin, Mac, Tiffany, and KJ and back together another threat emerges, unlike anything the girls have seen before. The girls must band together and fight to return home, no matter what.
Aquaman #16
The “Deluge” may be over but Aquaman must now contend with “Warhead” in the latest story arc starting in Aquaman #16 (DEC160249). Mera and Aquaman are leading the rebuilding effort of American cities that were drawn into the war with Atlantis. After the epic brawl with Black Manta and the behemoth he unleashed, all Aquaman wants is to help heal the wounds made by the war — but a new enemy is rising from the rubble. Aquaman will have to return to battle sooner than he expected as he takes on a foe like none he’s seen.
Avengers #4
One of the Avengers oldest foes returns as “Kang War IV” begins! Avengers #4 (DEC160930) has the Spider-Man team turning Kang’s tactics against him as they leave the time traveler stranded in the timestream itself. With nowhere to run or hide, Kang must use all of his skills to outwit the Avengers as he’s outsmarted at his own game. The Avengers aren’t taking any chances either as they storm the timestream wiping out any traces of Kang. Could this be the end for Kang in every time line?
Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #1
Two classic properties are colliding in comic books as Boom Studios and DC Comics team up for the crossover Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #1 (DEC161345). Taylor has gone missing and as Cornelius investigates he stumbles onto an ancient and magical ring, unlike anything seen before in this universe. As the cosmic power echoes through the galaxies, the Guardians of the Universe are forced to confront a secret they hoped would lie buried forever. As the Green Lantern Corps race to reach the ring before Sinestro can find it, Hal Jordan and the other Lanterns will be changed forever by what they find on the Planet of the Apes.
