Tales Untold in Superman: American Alien

Article Image 24e7You may first recognize Max Landis as an American screenwriter and director that first broke out with his 2012 film Chronicle. And it shouldn't surprise anyone that Chronicle was just the beginning of things. His father is filmmaker John Landis, who's best known for directing landmark blockbusters like The Blues Brothers and Animal House (among other things like Michael Jackson "Thriller" video). So it's safe to say that filmmaking is in Max's blood, and there's probably more films coming in the near future.

But if you're a comics fan, you probably also know Max Landis from his recent Eisner Award nomination for “The Sound of One Hand Clapping,” as seen in Adventures of Superman #41-42.

It seems that was just the start of many things to come as well from Max, because if you check out the DC Comics section of the September PREVIEWS you'll see that he's moved to the front of the line with the Featured Item of the Month courtesy of the new mini-series Superman: American Alien #1 (SEP150188) which has him paired up with superstar artists Nick Dragotta, Jock, Jae Lee, and Frances Manapul.

It's a book that's been broken down as something in the opposite direction of All-Star Superman: a seven-issue mini-series that can best be described as tales told by Clark should he join you for a beer at the local watering hole. Much like emotions can run wild over a brew or two, so does the tone of the individual stories that run throughout the course of this mini-series. At times you might laugh. Other times, you might walk away for fear that someone might see you getting misty. Or, you might want to walk away because the guy who's rambling on about his messed-up life might take out his frustrations on the person standing next to him — and you wouldnt' want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when Superman's had one too many, y'know?

For a glimpse into the Man of Steel's life that's sure to make headlines, check out Superman: American Alien #1 (SEP150188) from DC Comics arriving in comic shops November 11!
