Article Image 8faeKodansha gets us started this month with Queen Emereldas (MAY161607)! This book is from the legendary manga artist Leiji Matsumoto, who is otherwise known for Space Battleship Yamato, Space Pirate Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express 999 among many other works.

Queen Emereldas actually takes place in the same universe as Space Battleship Yamato; it follows Emeraldas, known throughout the galaxy as the Pirate Queen, travels through space on her heavily-armed ship, searching for a secret.

Hiroshi Umino is a young boy who escaped the bounds of Earth only by building his own spaceship. He crashes on Mars, where he encounters Emeraldas, who sees a little of herself in the reckless young man. Together, they travel the galaxy, striking down the wicked and arrogant and helping the innocent.

Fairy Tail Zero (MAY161603) is another series being brought over by Kodansha. A spin-off and prequel of the Fairy Tail series at large, longtime fans have been waiting for this for quite some time.

Many years ago, Mavis Vermilion was a servant at the Red Lizard wizard guild on Sirius Island. Mistreated by the guild master and his daughter Zera, Mavis nonetheless stays positive, because her mother once told her that fairies never visit people who cry about their problems.

When the guild comes under attack, Mavis pulls Zera from the wreckage into the forest, but Zera dies from her injuries. Seven years later, the powerful wizards Warrod Sequen, Precht, and Yuri Dreyer arrive on the island, seeking a powerful jade gemstone. This journey will change the course of magical history!

Article Image 8c19Seven Seas lightens things up with Merman in My Tub (MAY161737). The title is pretty self-explanatory – it follows Tatsumi, whose life changes drastically after a merman named Wakasa shows up and crashes in his tub!

These two dissimilar young men will learn what it takes to deal with one another in their everyday lives. Who knows, maybe something beyond friendship will unfold between them? Stranger things have happened!

TokyoPop continues their return to the market with Kilala Princess (MAY161827)! This long out-of-print Disney shoujo series previously only saw the first two of five books see the light of day in North America, so for most readers this is the first chance they have at reading this series!

The story follows Kilala, who gains the power of the princesses after she awakens a sleeping prince, Rei. She and Rei set out on a journey to rescue her friend Erica, who has been kidnapped. Whether you’re a fan of shoujo manga or simply a Disney fanatic, this is definitely one to watch!

Article Image 4126Immortal Hounds (MAY161917) is a brand new series from Vertical!

In an alternate world everyone is an immortal, there are no doctors or hospitals. Cemeteries are things of the past; some consider them to be legends or myths.

But with immortality comes consequences, like the loss of some of humanities greatest gifts, including love.

There are those who understand that and choose to die for the ability to experience such emotions again.

Furin is tasked to protect mortals in a world where immortality is the norm. And she accomplishes this because by day she works for the very government agency assigned to terminate those mortals who seek love over eternal life.

Viz Media brings one of the most popular anime series of the last several years to shelves in manga form with the first volume of Haikyu!! (MAY161919)!

Article Image f060Though the anime series is getting ready for a third season in Japan, this first volume takes readers back to the start of the adventures for the boys of the Karasuno High School Volleyball Club. After losing his first and last volleyball match against Tobio Kageyama, the King of the Court, Shoyo Hinata swears to become his rival after graduating middle school. But what happens when the guy who is supposed to be his rival ends up being his teammate?

For fans of something slightly more supernatural, 7th Garden (MAY161924) is bound to be it, and it’s arriving thanks to Viz! Awyn tries to be the perfect gardener (and perfect man) to win over his human mistress. But when he unwittingly awakens an ambitious demon, he must spend his days slicing away the rotten roots of beautiful gardens worldwide with his giant sword. And now seven angels are hunting him and his demon mistress down!

Yen Press also continues to expand their manga catalog with the first volume of The Asterisk War: The Academy City on the Water (MAY161954). Boys and girls of the Starpulse Generation all compete in the Seibusai, the "star battle festival," fighting for glory on the greatest combat entertainment stage of the world. Ayato Amagiri has just arrived at one of these academies at the express invitation of its student council president, but when he begins his career by making a dangerous enemy, his life on Asterisk is off to a rough start!

Article Image 5a6fLiselotte and Witch’s Forest (MAY161963) is another shoujo series being brought over by Yen Press. This is from Natsuki Takaya, the best-selling author and artist of Fruits Basket, and her signature style is clear right on the cover!

Despite being completely hopeless at endeavors like farming and cooking, Liselotte, a young lady of noble birth and guardian to twins Alto and Anna, picks up and moves to a remote land. At the easternmost reaches of her new home lies a forest where it's said witches roam.

When Lise one day finds herself at the receiving end of an attack by one such witch, she's saved by the sudden appearance of a young man named Engetsu. Though they're strangers, Engetsu is remarkably similar to someone she already knows.

That wraps it up for this month’s lineup! Be sure to check back with us next month for another crop of the latest and greatest manga releases, and don’t forget to preorder your favorite series today at your local comic shop!
