You know your TV show is a hit when you see a trailer for it in movie theaters. That level of success has made Adventure Time one of the highest rated animated shows on television, and the hits just keep coming. Now, BOOM! Article Image 513bPREVIEWSworld: What made you sign onto doing a story for Adventure Time Comics? Has it been in the bucket list of things to do, or was there some other circumstance that made this gig happen?

Katie Cook: I really like the Adventure Time cartoon! It's fun and bizarre... and when I was asked to contribute a story, I jumped at the chance.

PREVIEWSworld: You’re behind the wheel for a comic book title that has resonated in the minds of countless fans of the TV show. Do you take that into account when you sit down to write a script for your story? In either case, how does or doesn't it affect your writing?

Katie Cook: I do a lot of work in licensed books, so my first thought is usually to the show itself and staying true to it. Other than that, I selfishly wanted to use Lumpy Space Princess in it because I love her.

PREVIEWSworld: When you sat down to brainstorm on what should be the plot for your story, what variables did you consider? Did you want to pay homage to past storylines/continuity? Or did you want to drive on a new freeway?

Katie Cook: I wanted to use someone I knew who didn't particularly like LSP in the story... which isn't a hard character to find. I also created some new folks!

PREVIEWSworld: How did you get inside the heads of Adventure Time's characters? What influences your word choice for the sounds of their voices?

Katie Cook: It is impossible to write dialogue for LSP and not read it in her voice. Try it. You can't do it.

PREVIEWSworld: Without spoiling your story for anyone, if you could seize on a particular scene or scenario that would let you gush geekiness in overdrive for a blog or other social media outlet, what would have you typing ferociously at the keyboard?

Katie Cook: The lead up to the line, "Shut up, YOU'RE an onion" is my favorite thing. There you go, there's my award-winning dialogue.
