PREVIEWSWorld
: How did this series begin for you; where did the initial idea for Rachel Rising come from?

Terry Moore: I’ve had this Dead Girl character in my head for a long time. I planned to introduce her as a new villain in my run on Birds Of Prey, but didn’t get the chance. After Echo I decided it was her turn and, and since everybody in the world has already used the title Dead Girl, I used her name, Rachel.

PREVIEWSWorld: What drew you to the horror setting; is this a genre that you’ve been interested in for a while?

Terry Moore: Well, I’ve always enjoyed classic horror, but as an adult living in the now, I am drawn to stories about survivors and empowerment. What better setting to find those qualities than in the challenges faced in nightmarish conditions? And, as an artist, the freedom to draw the extraordinary is fun.

PREVIEWSWorld: With Strangers in Paradise you dealt with everyday life, Echo let you try science fiction, and Rachel Rising gave you a chance to write horror. Is there a new genre you’re looking forward to tackling through comics?

Terry Moore: I love mysteries, thrillers, eccentric detectives. I would love to make a contribution to that genre. I would love to create an investigative character who is distinctive enough to make a place for himself in that genre. The thought of that stirs my ambition.

PREVIEWSWorld: While working on the final issues, was there anything that you wished you could go back and change in the earlier stories?

Terry Moore: Experience has made me more aware of the big picture as I navigate through the series. There’s always something I‘d like to adjust, but it’s small things now. My editing-remorse was extensive when I completed Strangers In Paradise, much less so with Echo. I’m learning.

PREVIEWSWorld: Now that Rachel Rising has been laid to rest with issue 42, are there any new projects on the horizon?

Terry Moore: Yes. Trust me, I am wide awake and very ambitious because I’ve yet to make my goal. I know in my heart that my best work work is yet to come.
