Know Your Shows: The X-Files

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning to the cult classic science fiction TV series, The X-Files, this January with an all new mini-series. If you can’t get enough of Mulder and Scully even with all nine seasons and both movies, there’s still more sci-fi spookiness out there at your local comic shop!

From its debut in 1993, this groundbreaking show jumped back and forth from deep-seated conspiracies to terrifying monsters of the week and — thanks in part to series creator Chris Carter — fans loved every minute of it. While inspired by The Twilight Zone and Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The X-Files was unlike anything on television at the time, and left a heavy mark on pop culture to this day.

The truth is out there at your local comic shop, and we’ve assembled some must have items just in time for the first new episode on January 24th!

 The Truth is Out There

When the second movie premiered in 2008, fans thought they had seen the last of the FBI’s X-Files team, but luckily IDW Publishing resurrected the case files and the team in The X-Files Season 10 (OCT130418).

An ongoing series exploring what happened after The X-Files: I Want to Believe feature film, writer Joe Harris weaves conspiratorial intrigue through traditional monster fare with a talent that would make Chris Carter himself blush.

Able to keep the characters and stories fresh and modern, Season 10 fits in perfectly with the show itself while giving Mulder and Scully new things to fear.

Full of technological paranoia an otherworldly threats, IDW Publishing’s ongoing X-Files series is a must read for devotees of the television show.

Trust No One

If you’re more interested in the original X-Files mythology, IDW Publishing has another series that will suit your need in The X-Files Classics Season One (JUL140331).

A collection of the Topps Comics series that was published in the 1990s, this trade brings together comic adaptations of fan favorite episodes like “Deep Throat”, “Squeeze”, “Conduit”, and “Ice”.

Covering the introduction of Mulder and Scully, featuring the fan favorite Tooms, and delving into Mulder’s quest to find his sister, this collection is a great introduction into the world of The X-Files as well as a great re-telling of some of the best first season episodes.

 Deny Everything

IDW Games lets you take on the shadowy government conspiracies and frightening monsters at home with The X-Files the Board Game (MAY142832).

From the designer of the hit Arkham Horror board game, this game is insidious from the start as one player takes on the persona of The Syndicate and tries to hide the truth from the remaining players who control FBI agents. Choose from Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, or Alex Krycheck each with their own set of abilities, skills, and weaknesses.

Featuring art from the IDW Publishing X-Files comic series, this game is a great crowd-pleaser and perfect for your next X-Files episode party.
