Fantastic Food Fight In Get Jiro: Blood and Sushi
May 28, 2015
A sushi chef turned into a warrior back in 2012 when Anthony Bourdain's Get Jiro debuted from DC/Vertigo. Now the prequel comic Get Jiro: Blood and Sushi (JUN150315) takes us to Tokyo years before the adventures in Los Angeles and — lucky for us — the gore factor remains the same.
Bourdain's idea for his new work is to tell a story of how Jiro’s two worlds collide as he works for his father’s mob, and yet pursues his love of the culinary arts to become a chef. It's a premise that's not too common. When was the last time you heard of someone raised in a family where murder is as common as going to the grocery store, and making the best sushi on the planet is something you don't advertise on Facebook? Get Jiro: Blood and Sushi will give us the answer, as it takes place in a futuristic dystopian Japan that may make some readers think of classic chopsocky genre films.
Violent, and heavy on the tongue-in-cheek humor, you can find Get Jiro: Blood and Sushi (JUN150315) from DC Comics/Vertigo in the June issue of the PREVIEWS comic shop catalog.
