Girls With Guts At Zenescope Entertainment

Article Image 47cdConvention time for us at PREVIEWSworld is always exciting because we get to see all the people in the industry that make things work. Those carpenters, plumbers, and HVAC people that keep the house standing, heated, and running with fresh water are people like Ralph Tedesco from Zenescope Entertainment. Ralph always has a nice spread at the Zenescope table. There’s always a new dish try, whether it be a new action figure, a new license, or a new book that’s hot off the press. In New York, Ralph was not hard-pressed to talk about the latest on the Zenescope ladies because his booth was packed with product.

“We’ve got a lot of starting points,” Ralph said, as he held up a phonebook-sized trade paperback. “Our Grimm Fairy Tales Omnibus. This is the first 50 issues of Grimm Fairy Tales. It’s intense!”

Article Image 53c5And he wasn’t joking, as the Omnibus was heavy enough to be used for weight-lifting. It was a massive collection, which was an approach that Zenescope also took towards their other popular title, Wonderland.

“In our version, Alice is a grown woman. She has a family of her own. But she’s in a twisted world,” Ralph grins. “She’s in a twisted version of the Wonderland we all remember as kids.”

It’s a formula that has worked for Zenescope for years. Stories that are in the public domain get pulled, torn apart, twisted, and put back together Frankenstein-style so that we have something we recognize, but we have no idea about what’s going to happen next.

Which is what makes turning the pages so much fun when you’re reading Zenescope comic books.
