A Massive Effort By Brian Wood

Article Image 19e6Should you go strolling through the Dark Horse section of the PREVIEWS catalog, you’re bound to see works by Brian Wood. The longtime writer has cranked out adventures for titles that range from Conan, to Star Wars, to Channel Zero, to The New York Four. To say that Brian Wood has an active imagination and works around the clock would be an understatement. But when we caught up with him at this year’s New York Comic Con, we wanted to focus on The Massive.  It’s a project that we knew was very personal to him, and with the fourth trade paperback already listed, we wanted to know if Brian wanted to summarize his tenure on the book.

“That series is going to end in December,” Brian explained. “Any time I end a book it’s a little bit sad. But, you know, it’s cool to finally see something that you spent years building reach its natural end, and end the way you want it to, and deliver the message you’ve been hammering home.”

The question behind The Massive has been one that asks if the planet can be saved once it’s been labeled as doomed. Brian examines this cataclysm throughout the series, both on an environmental and economic level. And applying such a keen analytical eye to his subjects is something he will equally be doing on his next project, Rebels, which examines America’s war for independence.
