Carpenter's Classic Captured In Escape From New York

Article Image 8770It was the 80s. The era of Reagan. We were inundated with songs by Sting (“Russians”) and Men At Work (“It’s A Mistake”) telling us what we already knew: the Cold War was not a good thing, no one was happy about it, no one knew what it would take for it to end, and sci-fi dramas like The Day After gave us images of mushroom clouds over cities to keep reminding us about the ultimate consequence for men maneuvering missles. Hey, it was just another day in the life. But you also had leg warmers, VHS, and movies like Escape From New York to remind you that life wasn’t all that bad.

You had to look at it this way: YOU could be Snake Plissken. You could be a guy that everyone wanted dead, and then your government (who also wouldn’t mind seeing you dead) could send you out into an impossible scenario where you have to rescue the President of the United States from being a human shield in Manhattan.

Ah, yes. The 80s. And now that nightmare movie sequence we just replayed is now a comic book from BOOM! Studios. Get ready for BOOM! Studios’ next John Carpenter adaptation that features Kurt Russell in the classic Escape from New York #1 (OCT141122) from writer Christopher Sebela, with art by Diego Barreto. You’ll find it in the Comics section of the October PREVIEWS catalog.

It’s time to catch up again with our old friend Snake Plissken, where living for the next 60 seconds is the only thing that matters. In shops December 3rd!
