Truth, Trouble, and Turnaround for New Transformers Titles

Article Image faf0So you like Transformers, you say? You’d vacation to Cybertron if you could afford the space shuttle? Well, then the news we have to report to you this month should be quite tasty.

The truth is that IDW Publishing raises the bar for the walking talking robots with “The Days of Deception” story arc which begins in Transformers #35 (SEP140389), written by  John Barber and illustrated by Andrew Griffith (who also renders the issue’s cover).

In this issue, Prowl and the Constructicons hunt the world's deadliest game: three humans with a history of fighting Cybertronians! Nothing’s worse than an enemy that thinks.

Lines are drawn as human and machine alike are drawn into the Onyx Interface, and rules could become secondary to the thrill of the kill.

Continuing this “Deception” story arc, Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye #35 (SEP140382) — written by James Roberts — has us exploring two of the most abstract concepts in the universe: peace and happiness.

Article Image e27fAre there such things?

If so, where can they be found?

IDW has said there's not much they can say about this issue without giving away the life-changing events of the last issue….so we’ll have to ponder a bit more of the first question.

Does peace and happiness have any place in the grand scheme of things? War seems to be the only glue holding things together. Yet, on the surface, there appears to be no conflict, no sadness, and no angst.

So why is it obvious to everyone that there are still problems, and the perceived happiness is nothing more than a smokescreen?

Well, let us not tease you any more, as doing your own homework is good for you. Besides, it’s not like those two books are the only presents under the three.

Article Image 2430The Transformers: Robots In Disguise Volume 6 TP (SEP140385) written by John Barber with art by Andrew Griffith and Casey W. Coller will be available to purchase in November. For those of you who may have been unable to get the last batch of sequential issues because of your unbending vacation plans, it’s the opportunity to catch up on how the Autobots have returned to Earth with Optimus Prime leading the charge.

Yes, the bot that’s tops is leading the charge, and he’s faced with a dilemma that has everyone looking at him for the answer.

Just what is responsible for the Transformers’ return? And is there any connection to the secret that the humans are keeping close to their chests?

The real question, though, is will there be any time for Optimus to play detective as Galvatron is also a new resident of Earth, but he wants to redecorate the planet as he once did with Cybertron.

Article Image b230Please understand that we’re not done teasing you yet, as Transformers: Primacy #4 (SEP140386) by Chris Metzen, Flint Dille, and Livio Ramondelli promises to give us something we’ve been eagerly awaiting: the final secrets of war for Cyberton!

And here you thought such revelations would warrant a softcover compendium. Nope.

In this issue, it’s the end of the road for secrets. Just check out the cover for this book.

Does it look like everyone’s skipping all the way to the refreshment stand for a cool cup of 10W-40 motor oil. Why no, it doesn’t. It looks like everyone is waiting for other shoe to drop, and someone’s going to get hurt.

Be on guard, as the cover attests to how Megatron stands on the verge of triumph, and that means no one goes home with a slice of birthday cake.

Article Image 27b9But it’s not like us to leave things on a sour note. Otherwise, why get out of bed. We all need some sunshine, and with Transformers: Drift — Empire of Stone #1 (SEP140392) by writer Shane McCarthy and art by Guido Guidi, there is cause for celebration because it’s the return of Drift! All is not lost, despite how the last time we saw Drift had left the Autobots in disgrace. A dark chapter, yes. A downer? Yes. The end of Drift, no! It turns out that the cosmic dungeon master that pulls everyone’s strings isn’t through with Drift. He now has a mission to clean up the darkest corners of the galaxy. Does this mean he’s been assigned to sweeping parking lots and vacant malls? Well, those are details that you’ll have wait for with the roll-out of this four-issue mini-series. One thing we can tell you is that Ratchet is back, and he’s trying to bring Drift home. For what reasons we don’t know, but Ratchet doesn’t seem to be willing to accept “no” for an answer.

Lastly, let us turn your attention to Angry Birds/Transformers #1 (SEP140395) by writer John Barber and artists Marcelo Ferreira and Livio Ramondelli.

Article Image deeeThis book is proof as to why you shouldn’t take life so seriously, because when you do you close yourself off to insane hijinx that you’ll find in this four-issue mini-series that smashes the Angry Birds and Transformers together to give you a new kind of tasty treat. If you willing to go insane in the membrane, then you’ll let it all hang out and follow along as the Transformers travel to Piggie Island to retrieve the powerful Allspark, which has turned the world of Angry Birds robotic! And with this overhaul of reality we get, of course, the Autobirds and Deceptihogs! How’s that for thinking out of the box? And would you want a crossover any other way?

Yes, there’s a lot of heavy metal to lift in the IDW section of the PREVIEWS catalog. The September issue is now on sale, so place your pre-orders for these cool Transformer books, and hit us up on our social media sites to let us know what you think about these new capers from the Cybertron comrades.
