As the eighth series of Doctor Who hits BBC America, the stunning debut of the twelfth Doctor's all-new comics adventures begins for Titan Comics.
Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #1 (JUL141438) lands in comics shops on October 1st and Robbie Morrison talked with PREVIEWSworld about writing the new series about the new Doctor.
PREVIEWSworld: How does it feel to be writing the first adventures for an all-new incarnation of the Doctor?
Robbie Morrison: To borrow the previous Doctor’s catch-phrase: ‘Geronimo!’ As far as I’m concerned, the Doctor, along with the likes of Sherlock Holmes and James Bond, is one of the iconic British fictional characters. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of it.
PREVIEWSworld: What’s your ‘mission statement’ for the new Doctor?
Robbie Morrison: To take the readers on a series of breathtaking, mind-boggling adventures in time and space. To capture all the thrills, chills, humor and sheer wonderment of the TV series, while taking full advantage of all the storytelling possibilities the comics medium has to offer. And to throw in as many ‘hide-behind-the-sofa’ moments of terror and heart-stopping cliffhangers as possible.
PREVIEWSworld: Will this be a good jumping-on point for fans and curious readers?
Robbie Morrison: It’s the first issue of a brand-new comic-book series starring the latest incarnation of the Doctor, whose TV adventures will only just have started when the comic hits the stands. Apart from the first episode of the new TV series, I’d like to think there isn’t a better jumping-on point in all of time and space – whether you’re a die-hard fan or a new reader!
PREVIEWSworld: Your first issue in the Tenth Doctor series comes out in November – what can you tell us about that story?
Robbie Morrison: Well, the fantastic covers you can see over the page, and the title – ‘The Weeping Angels of Mons’ – probably drop more than a few hints as to what the story’s about. In short, the Tenth doctor and new companion Gabby Gonzalez encounter the Weeping Angels on the battlefields of World War One, where they’re stealing the lives and youths of soldiers as relentlessly as the war itself!
